Frequently Asked Questions

At what age should my child start seeing a doctor?

Your child can start seeing a pediatric provider at birth. Waco Family Medicine Pediatrics cares for children from newborn through age 17. Early visits focus on growth, development, feeding, and sleep. As your child grows, visits help track milestones, prevent illness, and address concerns before they become problems.

What vaccines does my child need for school?

Vaccines are part of routine well-child care and help protect your child and their classmates. Requirements depend on your child’s age and grade level. Your pediatric clinician will review your child’s records, explain what is required for Texas schools, and give needed vaccines during the visit.

Can I stay with my child during the visit?

Yes. You are welcome to stay with your child during exams, vaccines, and discussions with the provider. Your presence helps your child feel at ease and ensures you understand next steps, care instructions, and follow-up needs.

What if my child needs a specialist?

Your pediatric provider treats common illnesses and ongoing conditions. If your child needs care beyond primary pediatrics, we will coordinate a referral to the right specialist and help guide you through the process. Care does not stop at the referral.
